No single event sits behind a run of posts describing Muslim people as savages and barbarians. On September 8, LeeAndersonMP_ told the Commons he had asked an SNP MP "if he would like one of these savages living next door to him". On September 9, RadioGenoa posted on X a list of practices it assigned to Muslim people as a whole: "They love polygamy, stoning, genital mutilation, women are considered equal to animals, they practice slavery". No country is named and no person. Every item is presented as something Muslim people do as a group. The RadioGenoa post drew about 139,822 views.
They is the word that does the damage. The list opens with a religion and then hands every crime on it to the people who follow that religion, so a Muslim person anywhere is said to love stoning and practice slavery. Slavery and the molestation of boys are crimes, and attached to a religious group with no case named, they become a description of what the group is.
The closing line settles it. Saying in advance that any objection will be called prejudice tells the reader the accusation is meant for the whole faith and that no exception will be entertained. A fair-minded reader should see that a list with no country, no court and no person in it is describing a people by their nature, and that the account posted it as fact.
