On September 9, Labour selected Camden council leader Sagal Abdi-Wali for the Holborn and St Pancras by-election, and on September 11 a clip of Mayor Mamdani smiling at the 9/11 anniversary ceremony spread widely. ACTBrigitte had written on September 9 that Mamdani "belongs back in Uganda". On September 11, RadioGenoa posted on X: "ICE should arrest Zohran Mamdani and send him to place where he was born: Uganda." Mamdani is the Muslim mayor of New York. The post asks for a sitting mayor to be seized by immigration police and removed to his birthplace. It drew about 48,627 views.
Send him to the place where he was born says that a man who holds elected office in New York belongs somewhere else, and the somewhere is fixed by birthplace. Nothing about his conduct enters it. The post treats a Muslim mayor's origin as grounds for arrest and removal, which denies him any claim to the country whose city he runs.
The repeat settles it. The same demand, with the same country named, appeared on ACTBrigitte two days earlier, so this is a line being passed between accounts, and the mayor is its stand-in for Muslim people in public office. A fair-minded reader should notice that the post asks for an arrest without naming any offense.
