A four-second clip of the mayor smiling during the reading of names at Ground Zero spread widely. On September 7, LauraLoomer posted on X: "Disgraceful that NYC has a Muslim mayor who supports Islamic terror on the 25th anniversary of 9/11." The post cites no statement, vote or act of the mayor's in support of terror. The disgrace, in its own words, is that the mayor is Muslim on the anniversary. The post drew 193,747 views.
Saying it's disgraceful to have a Muslim mayor on the anniversary tells the reader that a Muslim person in office is an insult to the dead, and that his faith puts him with the attackers. Supports Islamic terror goes further and makes him one of their backers. Every Muslim New Yorker is covered by the same reasoning, since nothing about the mayor beyond his religion is offered.
