The 25th anniversary ceremony for the 9/11 attacks took place at Ground Zero on September 11, where 9/11 widow Terry Strada demanded justice over Saudi Arabia's role. On the anniversary LauraLoomer posted "Islam did this". On September 12, she told a victim's son on X that he was "simping for Muslims after they murdered your father". They, in the sentence, is Muslim people; the hijackers are nowhere in it. The murder of his father is assigned to the faith as a whole, and his sympathy for members of that faith is treated as a betrayal of him. The post drew 360,336 views.
They murdered your father puts the murder on Muslim people as a whole, when the men who did it were a specific group who are never mentioned. Every Muslim person becomes the killer of this man's father, including the Muslim people who died in the same attacks. The son's grief is used to make the collective charge feel like loyalty.
Stockholm Syndrome settles the reading. Calling a victim's son a captive for recognising other victims says that any warmth toward Muslim people is a sickness. A fair-minded reader should take this as the September 11 murders charged to an entire faith, and a bereaved son shamed for declining to accept it.
