What was said

Hasan Piker is a public figure who is Muslim. On September 11, LauraLoomer posted on X about him: "He's such a disgusting Muslim", followed by a profane insult. The post answers no statement of Piker's and makes no argument. It's an insult aimed at one person, with his religion placed inside it as the thing that makes him disgusting, so disgusting Muslim is the operative phrase. What the post says about Piker it says about him as a Muslim person, and the same words then reach everyone who shares the faith. The post drew 59,676 impressions on the day it went up.

Why it counts

Disgusting Muslim makes his religion the reason he is disgusting. Take the word out and the sentence is an ordinary insult; leave it in and it's an insult to everyone who shares the faith. The profanity that follows adds heat and nothing else.

The placement of the word settles the reading. It's the adjective that describes him, and there is no other reason given for the hostility. A fair-minded reader should take this as hatred directed at one man for being Muslim.
