What was said

The crisis in Ceuta ran into a second week. Pedro Sánchez said Israel and Russia were spreading disinformation about the migrant surge, and MEPs from the EPP and Patriots for Europe rallied against him in Strasbourg on September 2. Amid that, on August 31, the X account RadioGenoa posted about police firing on Moroccan migrants in Ceuta, writing "Spanish police in Ceuta open fire. It is about time." The post drew about 1.8 million impressions. The claim being tested here is whether that welcoming of gunfire against migrants belongs in ordinary political talk.

Why it counts

The caption welcomes gunfire against a crowd and says it should have come sooner. The crowd is defined by nationality and by migration status, and nothing else about it is offered.

Approving of shooting at a group defined that way is celebration of violence against the group. 1.8 million views is the size of the audience the approval reached.
