'Import third world, become third world': backwardness as a trait people carry.
A surge of migrants arriving in Ceuta kept Spain in crisis through a second week at the end of August 2026. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said Israel and Russia were spreading disinformation about it, and on September 2 EPP and Patriots for Europe MEPs rallied against him in Strasbourg. The account RadioGenoa, which was posting daily "apocalypse" videos, wrote on X on August 31 that migrants "turned Ceuta into a bazaar" and that "if you import third world you become third world. Simple." The post drew 50,896 views. It casts North African migrants as people who bring permanent backwardness with them.
The aphorism says that backwardness lives in people and travels with them, so a place becomes whatever its arrivals came from. That is essentializing by origin, written as a rule.
The bazaar image does the racializing: the arrivals as an alien marketplace, and the enclave as something they made foreign.
