An 1803 massacre, retold to end in 'Islam has no place in Greece.'
A migrant surge at Ceuta stayed in the news into a second week from August 31. Pedro Sánchez said Israel and Russia were spreading disinformation about it, and EPP and Patriots for Europe MEPs rallied against him in Strasbourg on September 2. The account RadioGenoa kept posting daily videos, peaking on September 4 with a story about migrants killing a dolphin calf. On September 3, in the middle of that week, the X account HomerPavlos wrote that people would face "rape, abuse and enslavement" at the hands of Muslims, and closed: "Islam has no place in Greece." The post drew 242,366 views.
The retelling swaps the historical actors for a faith. The soldiers of 1803 become 'Muslims,' and what those soldiers would have done becomes what Muslim people do: rape, abuse, enslavement, as a nature carried across two centuries.
The last sentence is where the history stops being history. 'Islam has no place in Greece' is a demand about the present, aimed at the Muslim people living in the country now, and the massacre is there to make it feel earned.
