'Barbarians inside the citadel': an enemy let through the gate, and nobody named.
The crisis in Ceuta ran into a second week from August 31. Spain's Pedro Sánchez said Israel and Russia were spreading disinformation about the migrant surge, and EPP and Patriots for Europe MEPs rallied against him in Strasbourg on September 2. The account RadioGenoa kept posting daily "apocalypse" videos, peaking on September 4 with a story about migrants killing a dolphin calf. That same day DavidVance, who also called the dolphin killing "total savagery", posted on X: "London is beyond fallen. We have let the barbarians inside the citadel and this is how they behave." It names no one and drew 311,164 views.
The citadel image has two parts. 'Inside' says the people in question don't belong there and got in through someone's failure, and 'barbarians' says what they are. The post names no one, so reading the barbarians as migrants is an inference, and it's ours; it rests on 'we have let them inside,' which only makes sense of people who arrived, and on the account's week, which ran the same barbarian phrasing over the Ceuta dolphin story alongside Calvin Robinson and Geert Wilders.
'This is how they behave' takes whatever prompted the post and hands it to everyone 'they' covers as a trait, and the post leaves 'they' for the reader to fill.
