On successive nights in Ceuta, mobs attacked migrant encampments, tearing down and burning shelters, throwing belongings into the sea and blocking Red Cross food deliveries. Sweeps were organized through WhatsApp groups, a month after tens of thousands of people crossed from Morocco. Spain requested Frontex and Europol support, and the governing coalition and the opposition traded blame. On 26 August the X account RadioGenoa wrote that "Spanish patriots with clubs are hunting down North African Muslim invaders" and that "a war is underway in Ceuta between European Christians and African Muslims." The post drew 410,718 views.
Hunting is what the sentence says the men with clubs are doing, and patriots is what it calls them. The word choices do the endorsing: the people being beaten are prey, and the people beating them are defenders.
