A theft story that leads with a slur and ends with 'parasite.'
On 28 August 2026, the account RadioGenoa posted on X about a man it did not name, accusing him of robbing tourists in Florence. The post opened with an ethnic slur for Roma people, said his "favorite victims are defenseless elderly people," called him a "parasite," and told followers, "Let's make this parasite famous." So one unnamed man is made to stand in for Roma people generally, and the word used for him is a word for vermin living off others. RadioGenoa's post drew 330,877 impressions.
The post puts a slur where a name should be. Choosing an ethnic slur over a name converts one alleged thief into an ethnicity, and that word choice is what the research flagged, as distinct from the mere mention of his background. The slur does the group work before any fact of the case arrives, and 'parasite' finishes the job, moving him from wrongdoer to organism.
“Make this parasite famous” points a pile-on at one unnamed man, and the framing spends the damage on Roma people generally.
