After a fact-check of his call to ban broadcasts of the Muslim call to prayer, Beckwith's office issued a statement saying “Hoosiers across Indiana are concerned about the rise of Islam” and that he “refuses to apologize” for saying Sharia law has no place in the country.
Objecting to amplified noise at specific hours would be a normal municipal argument. “The rise of Islam” isn't about decibels.
It treats a religion's presence as the problem to be managed, from a statewide office, in an official statement rather than an off-hand remark.
