On September 11 Tucker Carlson used his newsletter to defend Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed's remark that America's response to 9/11 'scarred millions of other people'. Two days earlier he had urged viewers to skip the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, where Vice President Vance gave a keynote. Mark Levin wrote on September 10 that 'the fusion of the Marxist-Islamist Left and the Woke Reich isolationists is real'. On September 12 James Lindsay called 'Tucker and co.' 'ideological suicide bombers against MAGA', and Laura Loomer wrote that the 'Woke Reich is an Islamic movement'. Their claim is that Carlson and his allies form an organised faction working against Trump.
The narrow reading is that Carlson's allies won't break with him despite his attacks on Trump and his defence of El-Sayed, and that the reluctance marks a faction out of step with the president. That's a smaller claim than the one made: allies who stay out of step with Trump over Carlson are a long way from an organised faction protecting him out of shared hostility to Trump and to Jewish people. On the smaller claim, the break itself is documented. Trump told ABC News on 5 March that 'Tucker has lost his way' and 'he's not MAGA', a position that still stands, and Loomer's report of the Sid Rosenberg remarks had no outside confirmation by the close of the window. The claim as made didn't hold, and the break can't stand in for it.
The wide reading makes the faction an Islamic movement fused with the Marxist-Islamist left, protecting Carlson out of shared hostility to Trump and to Jewish people. Levin's own linked source, Tirza Shorr's 'The Islamist Left's America First Disguise', finds the overlap stops at anti-interventionism and records Carlson and Saagar Enjeti disparaging El-Sayed's opposition while looking displeased to agree with him. Vance's Dallas keynote boosted Trump, and the only Carlson echo Media Matters found in it was the immigration line; none of Carlson's charges against Trump appeared, and Carlson's 'greatest betrayal' interview took a position Vance didn't join.
The faction answered without naming its accusers. Cernovich wrote that 'Neocons and communists are one in the same', Posobiec wrote that conservatives are more worried about in-fighting than 'the Bolsheviks who want us all dead', and Carlson's interview said nothing about his in-camp critics.
Three checks: on whether the accusers' own source shows the faction converging with the Islamist left beyond foreign policy, on whether the president is on record condemning Carlson himself, and on whether Vance's convention keynote withheld support from Trump or echoed Carlson's attacks on him.
