Sen. Rand Paul released hundreds of pages of Anthony Fauci's personal diary on July 25, then chaired a Senate Homeland Security hearing on July 29 where Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times rather than answer questions about its contents, including a CIA briefing on Wuhan intelligence.
The narrow version has substance. NIH funding during Fauci's tenure supported gain-of-function-adjacent work whose techniques reached researchers connected to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and that chain got less scrutiny at the time than it warranted.
Deliberately developed bioweapons technology handed to a Chinese military lab doesn't survive contact with mainstream virology or intelligence assessments, and a planned test run has no corroborating documents behind it.
